Over the last two thousand years things have changed but with those changing times the strength and temperament of the governing counsel has changed as well. You see they are the unseen force in the supernatural world. Again, I said unseen. They are the rule makers, the secret society of rulers that built what we have today. And I am one of the few 'enforcers' at their beck and call.
My name is Danyiel Davenport. Along with my brothers Jason and Trent we keep the peace when there is not a reasonable outcome for a vampire war. Or any supernatural war. We are Dhampirs. Which is a fancy way of saying we are hybrids of sorts. Our father, Lord Davenport, is an original vampire and I say originals because there are different types of vampires in the world. The seen are the new world vampires and the originals, like my father are the unseen vampires. My mother was a servant of the original court that is how my father found her, fell in love or so the story says. You never are sure with them what is love or lust. But my father is not an uncaring man. My twin brother Jason and I are a rarity in itself. No other human has been able to bare two perfectly healthy babies of an original vampire. Unfortunately our mother died to complications. She bled out after we were born. Back in that day it wasn't such an uncommon occurrence but I still wish at times that she had been there when we were growing up. She could have helped me in ways my father or brothers were not able to. So we fight along side our older brother, Trent. As with our mother his mother had been a member of the court. Father apparently was a ladies man, not something I like to dwell on but its made my family the way it is. We grew up training, learning to fight and take down the weaker members of the supernatural world. Since we are the 'spawn' of an original we have the speed, strength and the stamina of an original. This makes us stronger and faster than any of the new world vampires. We also do well against an original. Its a fair fight at least. Lycans are tricky but we again have the strength and speed on our side. Though in the last thousand years the Lycans have stayed in place. they try to not let it be known that they are real. Sometimes its easier to get lost in the supernatural word and stay there. Really, we would all like that. What we do is not to be taken lightly. There are worlds inside the world we all know. Vampires fighting vampires; vampires fighting shifters... and then the damn rogue werewolves. The ones without a pack... they cause issues at times. It's been a long hard time but there were the lighter times. A few disagreements here and there but nothing the three of us couldn't handle. If things got too bad we would take a long a death dealer. The nastiest of the nasty original vampires. They were no threat to us but to others they may as well say their final goodbyes because once we are on your trail its all done. No one call stop us from scratching your name off of our lists... except father. Things changed for me a few years ago in a way I wasn't sure was possible. I met a man, another dhampir and we fell in love. Well no that isn't right. I fell in love, he just wanted me for a play toy but I was too wrapped up in him to see that until it was too late. By the time I realized what was going on it was too late. I was pregnant and there was no way to hide it. But with the help of my brothers I tried. It wasn't until after Berkeley was born that my father learned of her existence. I am sure Daniel had a hand in that but its put me and my brothers in a difficult spot a few times. After months and months on the road, hiding her from anyone that would cause her harm we went home. Stupidly I got back together with Daniel. Seems he and father had come to an agreement and for the first time in years he seemed to care about me. When Berkeley was two Daniel kidnapped her from me. It took a few weeks for the boys and I to locate her and the horde of idiot humans he had been keeping her with. We had a fight, needless to say the only ones that walked away was us and Berkeley. Since then we have stayed on the road. Not going home is hard but until I am sure my father or one of the other elders had nothing to do with this we will still do our jobs while keeping Berkeley safe. |
